I have the privilege of hosting a Girls Camp out of my home for a couple weeks this summer.

During the first week of June, we spent some time learning about Juneteenth. We read the book, “All Different Now” and explored a bag full of items tied to the emancipation of Black people in this country.

Then, on June 19th, the girls and their families came over for a Juneteenth celebratory dinner. That night I got to read to them this other wonderful book! (See pictures)

For those who don’t know, Juneteenth remembers when the news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached Galveston, Texas… More than two years later, after it was signed by President Abraham Lincoln! (Though the sad reality is that even after that, some people were still not freed by their owners.)

As I have written in the past, Black History isn’t just meant for February!

(In my next blog, I will share more about Girl Time.)
