We are in the Christmas season and I decided to do something different with Learning Together Littles a couple of weeks ago and Girls Camp soon. I thought it would be wonderful to explore Christmas traditions from around the world.
First step was ordering books representing each continent. I already had a breakable nativity scene from Mexico. (They got to touch a couple pieces.) I purchased a fair trade Kenyan version made of banana fibers that could be played with… and pulled out some other items from my International Kit along with a little wooden boat, or Karavaki (Greek tradition), that I decorated with lights.
A Duplo plane flew us to each place! Every area had something a little different to discover, but the gingerbread cookie dough station in the European kitchen was quite the favorite.
As you think about celebrating Christmas with children, perhaps you can use some of these ideas to give them a wider view of the holiday, even just getting a couple of the books from the library. Look at the photos below for more ideas!
Wishing you a blessed season as we celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Savior and Lord!
Love, Zoe
