Kids and Tech

7/19/2026

I used AI for the first time to polish my previous blog. I wrote it while on a road trip, and it just felt easier to allow a computer to fix my work instead of what I usually do…a process of repeatedly reading aloud and correcting until it flows smoothly.

Tech, like my venture into AI, can be so helpful, but is it the best choice? Furthermore, how does tech impact children? We must ponder these questions in order to make wise decisions.

My thoughts:

As a teacher of young children, I have used some, including YouTube, to enhance lessons; exploring various animals in their natural habitats, a butterfly’s lifecycle, or even how people live in other parts of the world are a few examples.

However, tech should not replace playful learning, direct interactions between people, or holding a physical book in one’s hands. Children’s lives need to be filled mostly with real experiences!

This has become such a problem, many schools have chosen to ban tech in the classroom. A summer blockbuster, “Toy Story 5” also chose to highlight the issue!

So let’s be cautious, especially with our youngest, to utilize tech wisely!
